Forced Exercise and Parkinson’s Disease

Dr. Jay Alberts details his pioneering 2003 discovery of 'forced exercise.' While general fitness benefits were previously known, this was the first demonstration that assisted, high-cadence movement specifically reduces motor symptoms. This breakthrough revealed that speed—not just effort—mimics medication’s brain effects, establishing exercise as a targeted neural therapy.

Note some of the ideas here have been superseded by newer discoveries - nevertheless it's interesting to see how it all began.
